On the 21st of March 2008, 40 young Netzerniks from Gauteng and Durban got on a bus to the Magaliesberg mountains. While much of South Africa was celebrating Easter, these enthusiastic young Jews spent their long weekend celebrating Purim.

Mini camp "Shushan" took place in the wonderful Magaliesberg setting of Hekpoort. From a very unusual reading of the Megilah, through activities regarding the story of Purim and its meanings, to a journey through the forgotten characters of the Megilah, the participants of Mini-Macheneh "Shushan" learned a lot about the holy day (especially about the Mitzvah to be happy and have fun).

Most of the activities on camp were run by our talented and enthusiastic team of madrichim (young leaders). These young people are the future of South African Progressive Judaism, and the future looks bright.

With good food (courtesy of Cynthia Duchen), great young leadership, tons of ru'ach (atmosphere) and loads of fun, Mini-Machaneh "Shushan" was a great success!

Nilmad v'Na'aseh!

We will learn and we will do!
