Perhaps the most exciting feature of a youth movement like Netzer is the nature of its leadership.
Madrich does not, in fact, mean
leader, but rather
guide.
Madrichim define the nature and direction of our movement and guide our channichim.
For channichim, learning does not mean being taught, but rather being guided through a variety of Jewish, Zionist and social issues by our well trained madrichim.
This is why Hadracha(leadership) seminars are such pivotal events in our calendar. Our recent seminar in March was no exception.
Our promising new team of madrichim were shown the ropes and explored the array of skills key to leading a youth movement.
More importantly, they were challenged with greater questions. How far-reaching is the power of education? Where should we be focussing our ecducational efforts? What responsibility comes with being a role model? We know that these are questions that we all continue to grapple with.
Shortly after this intense weekend, many of our madrichim found themselves cast in a lighter role at Purim.
Netzer joined and led in celebrations on both Erev and Yom Purim. Between the synagogues of Temple Israel we managed to take part in a talent show, a megilla reading, a puppet show, a play and a carnival. The pictures say it all!
Nilmad v'Na'aseh!
We will learn and we will do!
